Baby Post - almost 8 weeks old

In just the last 2 weeks, the EB has gotten so much more *present* - she's alert, and engages with people, and seems sorta aware of what's going on around her.
We have one major wake-up in the middle of the night usually - I feed her at 9 or 10 o'clock, and then we all go to bed. She wakes up to eat about 3 or 4, and then back down till 8 or 9 in the morning. This is do-able. Very. When she wakes up in the morning, she doesn't just wake up screaming and wanting to eat (though she is hungry) - we can play and talk to her, and she'll look around, smile, and make faces and noises. (This morning we had maybe 15 or 20 minutes of this before the screaming-I-want-to-eat-NOW started. Yeah, when she decides it's time to eat, she gets very unhappy very quickly.)
The noises she makes are mostly squeaks and grunts and coos, but sometimes they are (almost?) in response to external stimuli. She is just starting to recognize Toys as a general category of existence, though I think the concept is still a little fuzzy to her. She takes lots of little catnaps throughout the day - in her crib occasionally, but mostly in her bouncy chair, or in her swing (or if we're out and about, in her car seat). In between naps, she looks around, taking it all in. Or, you know, cries while we try to figure out what's wrong and if there's anything we can do about it. She likes music.
In just the past few days, I've started holding her in my lap in a seated position - my hands under her armpits - and she likes that because she can look around and see more. For some reason, she almost always looks at whatever is off to the far left, over her shoulder - even if there's nothing there. (We joke about whether that is an indication of her future political leanings.) She doesn't like being on her tummy much (she gets frustrated and fussy), so it will be a while before she can lift her head from that position, or roll over, I think.

Date: 2005-04-29 06:38 pm (UTC)I'm so jealous. Evan's had just four nights (yes, I've counted and cherished every single one) where he's slept 6 hours at a stretch. Usually he's up at least twice a night. Two of those nights did occur earlier this week, so maybe we're getting somewhere.
