Oryx and Crake, by Margaret Atwood. Speculative fiction about a post-apocalyptic dystopia. See how the world falls apart and humanity comes (almost) to an end! I enjoyed this - but then, I've always been an Atwood fan. A very different feel compared to A Handmaid's Tale, but equally dark, if not more so.
Last week, I read The Pilot's Wife by Anita Shreve. Although it's an Oprah book (which is usually enough to make me turn up my nose and sneer), I liked this one. It was definitely gripping, and the plot propelled itself forward nicely as the mystery unraveled. (In other words, I couldn't put it down.) There were even some surprising twists - at least, I didn't see them coming.
