1) In five words, explain what ended your last friendship?
I was unnecessarily rude. Huh.
2) How was your prom night?
Ick. Don't ask. Junior year: he was a friend of a friend, and we got to the restaurant, and I realized that I had nothing to say to him *and* didn't care. Worse - the guy I had a crush on had commented the week before that he was surprised I was going with this guy. So I had major regrets. Nothing terrible happened, but it was enough to convince that I didn't need to go to formal dances just for the sake of going, and I wasn't going to go to any more unless I really wanted to. And I didn't go to a single formal my senior year, and was much happier for it. :)
3) Do you have any famous relatives?
No. My dad has a cousin named Pete Rose, but he isn't *that* one. Actually I have an uncle named Dick Clark, but not *that* one either. We're a frightfully boring family on both sides.
4) Have you taken out loans to pay for college?
Luckily no - my parents paid. There was one small loan my senior year, and my dad paid it off. I know how bloody lucky I am, for that, and I try to remember that as often as possible.
5) What did you receive last in the mail?
A magazine, a advertising flyer for some magazine, and my visa bill.
6) What beverages have you drank today?
Mostly water. One can of Coke Classic.
7) Do you leave nasty messages on people's answering machines?
No. I'm too non-confrontational.
8) What's the most painful surgical procedure you've had done?
Hmmm. I guess when they put my broken arm back together - I got morphine and then vicodin for that, and those are probably the strongest drugs I've ever been given. That and my wisdom teeth are most of my surgical history..... Childbirth also counts as "most painful", but wasn't surgical. :)
9) What is out your back door?
The deck. Immediately: the garbage cans. Then, the part of the deck that is now empty - we'd like to put some patio furniture there eventually.
10) Do you usually go out on the weekends?
What's this "out" of which you speak? I have a 3-year-old. We hardly ever get a babysitter. *shrug* Of course, I didn't go out much before I had a child, so she's only an excuse.
11) Do you like what the ocean does to your hair?
(Gosh, how long has it been since I've been swimming in the ocean? The last few times I was there - either one - I think I just waded. I don't like swimming in cold water much.)
12) Have you ever visited a planetarium or do you even know what one is?
Yes, but it's been a long time, I suspect.
13) What is your favorite flavor of pudding?
Chocolate.
14) Describe your keychains:
I have the keychain my parents gave me for my 16th birthday - it's a slice of deer antler with a bitty maple leaf lacquered onto it. I also have a condom keychain on there, from my days working at Planned Parenthood - though the condom is gone (expired, maybe?) - it says "See Dick with an erection. See Dick use no protection. See Dick with an infection. Don't be a Dick." There are little stick-figure drawings too. It's awesome. Someday Elena will be so *appalled* by that. :)
15) Where do you keep your change?
There's some in my wallet, but to keep my purse from weighing 80 pounds, I take most of my change from a day out and throw it in a big jar in the kitchen. Someday I'll buy myself a present with all that.
16) When was the last time you got up and spoke in front of a large crowd?
Um, probably at Planned Parenthood, where that was my job. :) I don't do much of that these days. But damn, that job was good public speaking training. I used to hate doing that.
17) What kind of winter coat do you have?
I have an LL Bean "barn coat" (I think that's what they call it) - it has a button-out liner, which usually stays in, and it can keep me warm on the coldest days. For dress-up, I still have my beloved long hunter-green wool coat from college, though the lining is getting a little tattered.
18) What was the weather like on your graduation day?
College: nice, sunny, not too hot (I think). High school, I have no idea.
19) Do you sleep with the door to your bedroom open or closed?
Open, because if it's closed we can't hear Elena if she cries in the middle of the night.
20) Is there anything purple within 20 feet of you?
I have a purple pencil in my pencil mug right in front of me. My water cup is a plastic mug that has some purple in the design. There might be some purple yarn in the bag to my left. And on the couch is a purple and brown and black pillow.
21) What is the strangest thing you've put in the microwave?
I'm stumped on this one.
22) Can you speak any Japanese?
We had a set of Pimsleur Japanese tapes at some point, so I remember some of the basics from the first 3-4 lessons, but not much else. I can say "I understand a little Japanese" or "I do not understand" or "Excuse me" - but not much else.
23) Do you look good in the color yellow?
You know, I never wear it. It's just not a favorite color of mine, generally.
24) Do you spit or smoke?
No.
25) What is your favorite color(s)?
Blue, then green. Combinations or shades thereof are a-okay. Fortunately,
galagan's favorite color is blue too - so all the house stuff we buy is blue or coordinates well with blue. It makes everything easy.
26) Ever played an instrument?
Piano from 1st grade through 10th. I occasionally like to noodle around a little bit - but someday I'd like a real piano in the house, and I *hope* I'd play it. French Horn in school, 5th-7th grade. I've always sung, and since 8th grade, voice has been my primary instrument.
27) Do you believe in Bigfoot, or Sasquatch?
Eh. Dunno. Not really interested enough to follow the stories or figure it out. But anything's possible, I suppose.
28) Ever been to a palm reader?
No. Oh wait,
samtheeagle's mom read my palm once - she said I was a mystic, even though I didn't know it (it was deeply buried). And that I was a young soul. I don't remember anything else. I prefer tarot.
29) Did they tell you the truth about your future?
I don't remember her making any specific predictions.
30) What are you thinking about at this very moment?
GREs and recommendations. I need to find toddler sizes in ballet slippers somewhere around here without driving millions of miles.
31) Have you ever received a black eye?
No.
32) What is your biggest current disappointment?
That I have such trouble coming out of my shell and being open with people.
33) What are some of your favorite drinks?
Ice cold Coca Cola. Cocoa. Water. :) I like water a lot.
34) Do you have anything that hurts on your body at this time?
My right foot is randomly hurting, and I don't know why.
35) Have you ever ridden in a taxi?
Yes, though it's been a long time. When my grandmother still lived in New York. Probably not since then. (She left in 2001.)
36) What is the last alcoholic drink you had?
I'm not sure. I really don't drink much, though I do like wine. I think I had some wine at some point in the past few weeks, but I can't recall the occasion.
37) Did you do anything special last night?
Last night. I watched some of So You Think You Can Dance - more than I'd seen of it before. Read my book a bit. Probably played some games on the computer.
38) What is your very favorite food?
Garlic on anything. :)

Date: 2008-07-11 01:08 pm (UTC)I may try to call them later - but there seems to be a place in Pittsfield, and I have some errands that need running in that direction, so I might try there, on the assumption that they might be open.
