More questions - from
allthatjazmyne
1. What's your favorite book, ever?
You go right for the tricky stuff, don't you? I can narrow it down to a short list, but it's hard to order that list in any meaningful way. That said, Possession, Persuasion, and Angle of Repose usually top my list. And Pride and Prejudice. And Northanger Abbey.... And Harriet the Spy.
2. If you had to buy someone a gift, and you only had $6, what would you do?
Visit the dollar store and look for something kitschy, maybe? I'm not very good at gift-giving, or finding the A-1 perfect gift (that would involve too much *shopping* time).
3. What's your favorite thing to do while E is napping?
That is my main time of the day for getting anything done. Phone calls. Cooking sometimes. Reading. Quilting. I do spend some of that time on the internet. Any tasks that require some focus and/or time without interruption. I've started writing the answers to these questions while she's up, but there are frequent interruptions, and I suspect I won't finish till after nap-time has begun.
To answer the "favorite" part, though - I guess my favorites are the days when I am able to cross a few items off my to-do list, and still have some quality downtime for myself. Sense of accomplishment on all fronts, or something. I do think the relaxation part is just as important as the "official" to-do list.
4. What was the best thing about living in L.A.?
Ooooo. There are people reading this who live in LA, and I don't want to offend them, but that's a tough question. Let's see - I loved the easy access to cheap and plentiful sushi, as well as the other ethnic restaurants (one block away from us was a whole row of Persian restaurants - where else can you get that?). And though I'm really not a beach person, I did like the beaches there - they were fun places, beautiful, and with lots to look at and do.
What's interesting about LA is that half the tv shows and movies you've ever seen are set there (and probably even more than that are filmed there), so to suddenly *be* there is a little *surprising* - everything's just a little bit half-familiar. I suppose New York City has a little bit of that feeling as well.
5. What do you consider yourself an expert on?
Um, I guess I'd have to say Jane Austen. Though I read a few of her novels in college classes, much of the reading I've done was on my own accord. I know enough to follow along at any level of discussion - whether it be the particulars of her life, or the ins and outs of characters in any of the novels (though I'm a little hazy on some of the details of Mansfield Park, which has never been my favorite).
But there are lots of other little things. I seem to get these obsessions and I'll do a lot of reading for a few years and then it fades. One of those topics used to be fairy tales - I've done a lot of reading in that realm too, but have forgotten a lot of that stuff. Or Arthurian literature, or diaries of pioneer women. A new one I'm just starting on is what I'm calling trashy novels of the eighteenth century - mostly early Gothics. But I'm just starting on that, really, so I can't claim even novice-expert status yet. Someday, maybe.
Anybody miss the first round (from, like, 2 days ago)? Comment with a random fact and I'll give you 5 questions.
