Toddler notes
Mar. 29th, 2008 05:28 pmElena's been talking a lot about "Erica and America" lately, and I couldn't figure it out.... until an hour ago, I realized maybe it was a sort of imaginary friend situation. Indeed, right now she's sitting on the floor with a toy, saying "Now it's Erica's turn - good job, Erica! Now it's America's turn....." Huh. Don't know where she got that from, but it's kind of fascinating.
For the past 2 weeks, she has worn underwear most of the time most days (except naps and sleeping) and has only had.... hmmm, 1 accident that I can think of. She refuses to even enter strange bathrooms, so when we're going out, I offer her the choice of a pull-up or underwear. If she wears her underwear out in public, I think she just holds it till we get home. So far this has worked. Amazing. The one thing that pushed her over the edge to want to wear underwear? The peer pressure of knowing that Alex and Cassie and ____ (whoever else) all wear underwear and use the potty. (This only applies to urination. Defecation is a whole nother ballgame apparently, and one we'll deal with eventually.)
Her language is coming along - I need to call the speech pathologist and see about follow-up. We're definitely more aware right now of her language short-comings, and are trying to encourage her to use words instead whining/pointing/etc.
She's still obsessed with dinosaurs. :)
And we can get her to try nearly any strange food you can think of - her friends' parents complain that their kids won't try anything, and she sits at the dinner table demanding "More capers! more feta!" I applaud her tastes, but it's a little daunting - I was a picky eater as a child, so I don't know what to do with this adventurous spirit.
