Today was Mommy's Day Off. I have been away from Elena for a few hours at a time, but never more than 4 hours or so. Today,
galagan is in charge, and I was basically kicked out of the house. :) Since she was born - 14 and 1/2 months - this was my first real day all to myself.
Oddly, I went shopping. I'm not a shopper, by any stretch - but on occasion, I find it pleasant to wander aimlessly, and it's more fun to do it without the encumbrance of the child. I took the bus (easier to do by myself than with a small child) down to Santa Monica, and went through the mall and walked a bit on the Promenade. I bought some clothes for Elena on sale at Macy's (3 summer sunsuits, plus a pair of shorts for $20 - everything hugely on sale). I also bought her a book.... another of the DK series, My First Body Book (if you know these things) - she already loves it because it has all these real! pictures! of babies!
I did peek into Ann Taylor - I'm not sure I've ever actually owned anything from there, but I like the *look* of their clothes. Going through the racks, I realized that it was the sort of stuff I would wear to work, and that I *miss* wearing those kinds of clothes, and everything that went with it. Like, you know, *working*. A good revelation to have - I'll definitely be ready to start job searching once we're resettled.
After lunch and the bookstore, I decided I was bored with shopping, and walked down to the beach. I bought a drink and sat at a table under an umbrella and read a magazine and looked at the ocean. It is an absolutely gorgeous day here - sunny and warm, with just a bit of a breeze. Then I walked further down the beach to Venice Beach, and then hopped on a bus that took me all the way back home. Lotta walking - my feet are a little sore now, but in a good way. Elena did fine without me of course, too - I wasn't worried, but it was nice to have that confirmed.
The pleasant day continues now that I'm back home.
galagan is feeding her dinner, and we just got to watch the ST:TNG episode in which Deanna is turned into a Romulan (which may be one of my favorites). Tonight: the finale of American Idol (I'll do some quilting while viewing!), to watch my girl Kat lose to the freakish Taylor. Eh, whatever.

Deanna was surprisingly good as a Romulan, but the forehead ridge spoiled her hotness...lol.

As for Deanna, I don't like her usually, but she's pretty kickass in that episode - gets into her Romulan persona and kicks ass!
