So, I guess I'm managing to do something else - in between sleeping and eating and visits to Target this weekend, I have done another thing - reading! I bought myself a few Christmas presents, and this is the first of them:
Angels in America, both Part One: Millenium Approaches and Part Two: Perestroika, by Tony Kushner. I read it in a single gulp, seemingly - too fast to take everything in. (Just couldn't stop, or even slow myself down.) I feel like I should read it about 5 more times to really get everything that's going on in the play(s). I do have a videotape of the movie version from when it was on HBO, so I could watch that a time or two as well. But - wow. What else can I say?
This fits into a category of something I often think of, and am interested in exploring further - works of art inspired by the AIDS epidemic. (I think this is my way of combining my English major past with my current occupation.) The AIDS quilt, Angels in America, Jeffrey, Love! Valor! Compassion!, Rent..... (I know there's tons more out there - that's just off the top of my head.)
Christmas present to Myself #2: the soundtrack to Avenue Q. I was reasonably prepared, I think - but there were still a handful of lines that totally broke me down. Love it.
Christmas present #3 is what I'm reading now - reportage on that later.
