Mar. 7th, 2008 02:57 pmBusy week. Full of toddler activities, running of errands, entertaining of mother. Yesterday was the Big 3 for Elena. We opened presents, and somehow, she got a whole bunch, even though not everyone in the immediate family has gotten her something yet. Finger-paints were one of the major highlights, closely followed by a set of dominos (she's been trying to line them up in a row for the purposes of knocking them down, but is still a little unclear on the concept) and wooden play food. In the afternoon, we took a beautiful drive over to Albany - my mom had a hotel room near the airport, so she could catch a 6 a.m. flight this morning. We swam in the hotel pool - at first, Elena would not relax her death grip around my neck, but she loved climbing up and down the stairs at the pool entrance and jumping off into the water. We showed her how to blow bubbles, and by the end of our time in the water, she was voluntarily putting her face in the water to do so. Then we went out to dinner, and she and I came home, leaving Mom there. Lovely drives too - I'm so glad we're finally on the verge of spring!!
Today has been a somewhat more relaxing day - although in the midst of her so-called nap I just heard a loud thump and went up to discover she had knocked the window blinds down. And the little handle-stick you turn to open and close them is broken off - and *she* got upset at *me* for that. Yeah, right. ARGH.
Her current obsessions: her fire truck/garbage trick/road construction video and a new dinosaur book.
Other observations from my week: I think Elena has a lot of toys, until I go over to someone else's house. No judgment on my friends with kids, but my child is clearly deprived. Also, I am singing in a small choir, yay! Haydn and Bruckner, double-yay! I am almost done knitting a scarf - my first-ever knitting project!
galagan is going out of town for a few days on Sunday, and then is giving a talk on Thursday - and these things negatively affect my social calendar, so I'm trying to find a babysitter.
