Sep. 18th, 2007 03:46 pmThe sweetest dog in the world - bar none - died this morning. My dad called to say that his 14-year-old basset hound Emily had a rough weekend (couldn't stand on Sunday, etc.) and when he took her in to the vet, discovered that her liver was grossly enlarged. She wouldn't have done well with treatment - so she was put down. She's had a lot of health problems for a few years, and had been rather weaker lately - when we visited in August, he was wondering aloud how much longer she'd be around. So this was not unexpected.

Dad was pretty broken up this morning. I told him that Elena calls basset hounds Emmy-dogs, and that will be Emily's legacy. He laughed.
RIP Emmy-dog.
