(no subject)
Apr. 10th, 2007 07:03 pmJust a thought or two on the Imus thing.
First of all, everyone should read Gwen Ifill's op-ed in the New York Times. I literally clapped at one point. She rocks.
Second, I've only really heard Rosie O'Donnell on The View (shut up, I'm a housewife/SAHM - I'm the target demographic) bring this up, and she quickly got drowned out by the other co-hosts' views before she got too far - why is it soooo much worse to be racist than sexist? Why is no one upset about the "hos" part of the nasty statement? Why is that people have carte blanche to be sexist jerks and that's okay, but the second they say one racist thing, everyone has this kneejerk reaction of "WHOA!!!!"? I'm not saying racism is okay, but why should it trump sexism? Why is that so much worse? I think this just shows how weird Americans still are on the subject of race.
Moving on: I can't wait for Elena to go to bed tonight, so I can collapse on the couch and watch American Idol. :)
