Just finished the book Face-Time, by Eric Tarloff, which is a political potboiler/kinda-thriller. It was on the Desperate Shelf in the library - "please, check me out! No one had read this copy for 5 years!!" The tagline says something like "What if your girlfriend is sleeping with your boss? And what if your boss is the President of the United States?" The author used to be a White House speechwriter, so you definitely get lots of that inner-workings-of-the-West-Wing kind of shit. I enjoyed it lots.

My big news is the expected - I got rid of the cast that ate Pittsburgh, and now have a lightweight fiberglass cast in light blue. (The doc tried to talk me into glow-in-the-dark, but I thought that would be weird at night when trying to sleep.) It was nifty and weird to watch the old one come off and see my arm emerge. They removed the stitches - yowch! - I had around 25, and some were hard to get to. I'm gonna have lovely scars - I scar easily in general, so I expect these will be doozies. I truly feel nearly human now, without that huge weight dragging me down. I still have my elbow immobilized (in order to keep the radius and ulna perfectly still, you can't use your wrist or your elbow, of course) - so a lot of the little weird tasks are still literally out of reach (anything on one's head that requires both hands: contact lenses, putting up my own hair, etc.).

I also have the best co-workers in recorded existence. They are cooking dinners for us several nights a week (there are only two of us, so I thought every night would be overkill). Tonight's was the first, and we have enough food to last the weekend, easily. The woman (our CEO, actually) who cooked it has 5 kids herself, so she is presumably used to cooking in huge quantities. We had a veggie casserole and salad and garlic bread and cookies. We are gonna get SO SPOILED. But far be it for me to complain. It's wonderful.
