I had my first OB appointment today. It wasn't with the doctor, just with her assistant (who was very nice, which is important - since I'll probably see her more than the doctor). Just major health history: have you or anyone in your family ever had.... And then labwork. I warned the phlebotomist about my horrible veins (they do not give up their blood easily at all!) and he did indeed have to poke me twice. I therefore have two lovely bright blue bruises in my arm (a co-worker said it looks like they were drawn on with a blue marker).

And then she called me back in the afternoon to tell me that the initial result of the blood test was that I am O-. How is it that I've lived for 31 1/2 years and never had my blood typed? Part of it is that aforementioned dread of blood draws, I suppose. I called my mother to tell her that, and even she was surprised. She's definitely Rh positive (as she said "I don't remember getting any shots") - so perhaps that means my dad is negative. She didn't know either. (Someone at work was laughing about this - hey, what could that mean? I said no - there is absolutely NO WAY my father and I aren't related. We have a friend who used to call me The Clone when she first met me, because she knew him first.) The negative part basically sucks because it means I have to get a couple of shots (which basically ensure that my body doesn't reject the most-likely-Rh-positive baby as a foreign object - isn't that creepy?).

And now I'm watching the Democratic convention off and on, although it's not exactly a thrill a minute here. But I was remembering watching the 1988 convention (look ma! I've been a geek for a looooong time!) and seeing Jesse Jackson speak. I don't remember what he said, just that he was damn damn impressive.
