Not dead. Dad was here, and now he's gone. It was a pretty low-key visit - lots of sitting around reading our books and playing with Elena, because we're just that kind of people. (One of my dad's sayings whenever our family is congregated: "what is this? the reading room of the public library?" Yeah. That's just what we do.)

I did read a couple of books..... here be dragons )

My current book has no dragons.

In other news, I just have a lot of little tasks around the house to deal with. And I need to think about scheduling a date to take the GRE. *groan* I hate math. Really really hate math. My sister was surprised - she said "but I thought you could always *do* math, but you just preferred other things!" Yes, that was once true. Now those muscles are atrophied, and I really really hate math..... (Specifically, long division - which I remember struggling with when I first learned it in 5th grade or whatever - fractions and percentages, and data analysis. Algebra and geometry are still pretty good.) *sigh*

So.... assume I haven't seen any movies in the past 5 years or so. (Mostly true: my movie-obsessed roommate moved out, and we stopped going to movies. I lived in a hick town without many decent movies anyway. Then I had a baby and stopped going out in the evenings.) The few exceptions are LotR and Star Wars sorts of things. We talk about doing the Netflix thing (I know - yet another thing for which I am the last person on the planet, blah blah blah). Of course, the LIBRARY has movies too. Anyway - I wanna fix this and work on my movie education. What would you recommend - your favorite movies of the past 5 or so years? (Heck - you can go further back too. Go crazy, especially if you think it's Something I Must See.)
