Via [livejournal.com profile] kassrachel, a meme: comment on this post and I'll tell you five subjects/things I associate with you. Then you post them in your lj and elaborate.

My given topics:

Post this on your LJ if you're in an opposite-sex marriage and you don't want it to be "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage cheapens or hurts it somehow.

Yup. Having lived in Massachusetts for 2 1/2 years now, with Teh Gay Mairrage all around us, I can't say it's affected my marriage in any way whatsoever.

(I'm suddenly reminded of the bumper sticker: "Don't like abortion? Then don't have one."

Only this would read "Don't like gay marriage? Then don't have one." Even better than the original, I think.)

Post 10 things that are going right in your life right now. I don't care how small. You're happy with your cup of coffee. You saw a flock of geese flying over. ANYTHING. Things that make you happy. Things that make you smile. No pressure.

It's small and it's simplistic, but maybe for the time you are compiling your list, you'll forget about the bad going on and focus on something good.

1. I feel cautiously optimistic about the state of political affairs in this country for the first time in a long long time.

2. While I was running errands, I think I figured out what step I need to take next on my homework (where I was stuck before lunch).

3. I am a graduate student! <--still amazes me

4. I live in the most absolutely beautiful place ever, bar none. The colors today on the near trees, contrasting against the far hills in full color and the blue sky, are just breath-taking.

5. I have a daughter who is a delight and full of laughter and life and giggles.

6. I am reading a really good book right now (The Peabody Sisters) for my book club, and want to take the rest of the afternoon off so I can just gorge on it. (Instead, see #2 for what I'll be doing.)

7. I had an amazing wheatberry salad for lunch - made it yesterday and it is so so so good. Fruity and nutty and grainy. Yum.

8. I think I'm going to attempt making sauerkraut this weekend. Or at least, I will start the process.

9. There will be mozzarella-making someday soon in my future, possibly while my dad is visiting.

10. I just love autumn. It's my favoritest season.

Now back to work!

somehow, I didn't get libertarian as my answer )

Also, I'm a Ravenclaw - no shock there. :)

Okay, okay

1. Take a picture of yourself right now.
2. Don't change your clothes, don't fix your hair...just take a picture.
3. Post that picture with NO editing.
4. Post these instructions with your picture.

Today, [livejournal.com profile] kouredios brought Cassie over for a playdate. [livejournal.com profile] yaoobruni also stopped by briefly. Now I am roasting things (potatoes and turnips).

In 2007, I posted on the 2nd about just seeing a [livejournal.com profile] sanj, and about the quilt I was working on, using this modern marvel called "a sewing machine". We were getting ready to go to Burlington for a quick holiday visit.

In 2006, I was en route from LA to Montana (and thereafter to Massachusetts). I didn't post that day - but on the 3rd I drove from southern Utah to eastern Idaho, and went by my childhood home in Pocatello. (On the 4th, I went down a certain highway that ended up being closed off for an hour for the town of Ennis (MT)'s parade.)

In 2005, I wrote about my maternal grandmother's death the night before.

In 2004, I was heading out to go camping with [livejournal.com profile] galagan, my mom and her friend, near Island Lake in the Beartooth Mountains. The funny thing (to me) is that I was pregnant, but hadn't told anyone yet (beyond [livejournal.com profile] galagan), so I felt obsessed and like I was probably acting bizarrely, and everyone (i.e. my mom) would know just by looking at me. :) It was a miserable camping trip too - I was slightly queasy, plus it was freezing cold, with drizzle and wind. We gave up early on the 4th and went back to town.

In 2003, I wasn't on LJ yet.

Book meme, from [livejournal.com profile] sanj most recently:

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read
3) Underline the books you LOVE. 3a) Strikethrough the books you HATE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who’ve read 6 and force books upon them.

68 out of 100! Woo!

(I couldn't figure out how to spell Kyrghyzstan and got held up on that point for a few seconds. And that scared me off all the Central Asian republics. Darn it.)

Which Dyke to Watch Out For Are You? )

In other news, I cut my hair all off. Amazing how much of a difference a haircut makes, to my mood and outlook and everything. I'm so shallow.

Vaguely interesting day - I've instigated a minor family drama, which has my sister fretting, my mother pointedly Not Talking About It (but rather upset), and my father telling me to do whatever I need to do. Nothing dire, not to worry. *sigh* Families.

Bright spot: I tried to make something crafty for a new project and I think I figured it all out. So now I will be extra-cool.

a new meme - it's so true! )

ETA: shiny new icon! Thanks [livejournal.com profile] kouredios!!!
